Magic 101.9 Staff Shares Their Wedding Songs

June is traditionally wedding month. And while the changes that came with the Coronavirus have caused some of those plans to be delayed, we're still celebrating with wedding songs all month.  Are you still searching for that perfect First Dance Song? The Magic 101.9 staff shares the First Dance songs from their own weddings and a few of their all time favorites.
Linda Cassidy
Magic 101.9 Morning Host
I’ve never been married! But my favorite weddings the past 10 years have happened in either a beautiful little park with charming cafe lights strung about or a self-contained historic building/property where guests only need to make it to one venue.

First Dance Song:
I, for years, thought Nick Cave's "Ship Song" would be beautiful to dance to at my future wedding until I realized it was really about letting something go. OK, back to square one: something by the Avett Brothers, for sure!

Top First Dance Favorites:
"A Thousand Years" - Christina Perri
"Make You Feel My Love" - Adele
"Anyone Who Knows What Love Is" - Irma Thomas (A. Toussaint)
The lyrics are tricky on this one, I know. Still....so much magic.

Annette Wade
Magic 101.9 Midday Host
Married in 2007 at a small chapel on Jackson St just off St Charles. We had a shrimp guest list of around 40 people. Because it was a small wedding, we could afford a fancy little reception on a private floor at Restaurant August.

First Dance Song:
“Stay With Me" by John Legend. The song is about staying together during the ups and the downs and we loved that.

First Dance Favorites:
  • “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran.
  • “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne.
  • “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston. (I just love the idea of shaking up that used moment with something fun like this.)

BONUS SONG THOUGHT:
unpopular opinion... "At Last" by Etta James is too hard to dance to. Don't pick it. :)

Steve Suter
Magic 101.9 Afternoon Host and Operations Manager
Married in 1983 at St Edwards Church in Metairie. We had a beautiful reception at Chateau Country Club in Kenner!

First Dance Song:
“One in a Million You” by Larry Graham

First Dance Favorites:
  • “I Could Fall In Love by Selena
  • “Because You Loved Me” by Celine
  • “How Deep Is Your Love”  by The Bee Gees
  • “Endless Love” by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross
Stacey Brady
Magic 101.9 Marketing and Promotions Director
I’ve never gotten married, but I’ve been engaged a really, really long time! About 10 years! We’ve never been able to agree on the when, how and where of a wedding. Maybe Magic’s June wedding month celebration will give us some new ideas!!

First Dance Song: The one thing we can agree on – It’ll be “La Mer” by Charles Trenet
First Dance Favorites: I like the old classics!

  • “A Kiss To Build A Dream On” – by Louis Armstrong
  • “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong
  • “Unforgettable” by Nat King and Natalie Cole

BONUS SONG THOUGHT:
“When You Say Nothing at All” by Alison Krauss

Jeff Booker
Magic 101.9 General Sales Manager
Married in 2003 at Holy Rosary Church in New Orleans. Our reception was so much fun! We held it at the Women’s Opera Guild house on Prytania in Uptown.

First Dance Song: Valentine by Martina McBride. It was injurious because it was a February wedding!!!
First Dance Favorites:
“Amazed” by Lonestar
“The Luckiest” by Ben Folds
“Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran

Robby Bowen
Magic 101.9 Director of Sales
Married in 2000. We had a small wedding celebration at home, which at the time was in Dallas!

First Dance Song: “Your Song” by Elton John
First Dance Favorites:
“Marry You” by Bruno Mars
“I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain
"Lucky" by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat
