Bride tests positive for COVID-19 on the eve of wedding; marriage allowed with riders

Chennai:
A 26-year-old woman hailing from

Villupuram
tested positive for COVID-19 on the eve of her marriage with a youth belonging to Salem district on Sunday.

Luckily for the young couple, the Salem district collector S.A.Raman allowed the marriage to take place with some riders.
The 28-year-old groom, who works in a garment export firm in Tiruppur, belong to Gengavalli in Salem. The bride works in a firm in Chennai. Their marriage was fixed in January 2020.
The bride accompanied by her parents and kin reached Salem district border in a car on May 21. The swab samples of the bride and others accompanying her were quiet for tests. When the result came on Saturday she tested positive.

Initially the health officials advised the bride's parents to postpone the marriage and send their daughter for treatment.

But the family was desperate to conduct the marriage as planned. Moreover the bride was asymptomatic and healthy.
Hence Salem district collector S.A.Raman gave the nod to hold the marriage.
The wedding was held at the house of the groom as per the guidelines issued by the district administration with only a limited number of people in attendance.
After the wedding and feast the bride was reportedly asked to place herself in home quarantine at a relative's house for the next 28 days.

Recently a bride near Bhopal in MP tested positive for the virus on the third day of her marriage following which she was shifted to a hospital.
